Tuchel: Lukaku Return Not Very Likely

Thomas Tuchel has revealed that a return to Chelsea for Romelu Lukaku is not “very likely,” with the Blues head coach admitting that he is now satisfied with his long-term attacking options with the £47.5 million ($56 million) signing of Raheem Sterling from Man City. Romelu  Lukaku returned to Inter on a season-long loan earlier this summer after spending just one season at Chelsea.

Chelsea received little return on a club-record expenditure in the striker in 2021-22, and Tuchel has stated that he no longer has a place at Stamford Bridge.

What Did Tuchel Have To Say About Lukaku?

While Chelsea were on their pre-season tour of the United States, the German head coach was questioned about the 29-year-old.

Tuchel told Sky Sports “Given the fact he’s just on loan, of course there’s a chance,”

“I don’t know if it’s very likely, but it’s not on me to give an outlook on that. There is a chance for it.”

Given that he’s only on loan, Tuchel said, “Of course there’s a chance.”

“I have no idea if it’s likely, but it’s not my place to speculate. There is a possibility of that.”

Will Sterling Be Chelsea’s Sole Attacking Addition?

With Sterling signing a five-year contract after leaving City, Chelsea has been able to strengthen their forward line in the wake of losing Lukaku.

In addition, Bayern’s Robert Lewandowski has been connected to Chelsea. However, if Chelsea are unsuccessful in signing anyone else, Tuchel says he would be satisfied with his current offensive choices.

He stated, “We decided together with the owners that we’d let him (Lukaku) go,”

“It was his wish to go, he had the possibility, we let him go.

“We brought now Raheem Sterling, which gives us a lot of flexibility, a lot of mobility, a lot of attacking options at the front, even if we don’t recruit more players.”
