Toffees have fitness concerns over Tosun

Everton have fitness concerns over forward Cenk Tosun, who looks set to miss Turkey’s matches over the international break. Things have not exactly gone to plan for Tosun since Everton paid a reported £27million to secure his services from Besiktas in January 2018, as he has scored just nine goals in 42 Premier League appearances for the club.
Indeed, the 28-year-old has been consistently linked with a move away from Goodison Park over the last few transfer windows and it was something of a surprise to see him remain at the club when the summer window slammed shut.
It certainly looked like Tosun’s first-team opportunities were going to be limited this season, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin and new arrival Moise Kean being ahead of him in the pecking order.
However, neither of those players have convinced in the first-team and that has resulted in Tosun receiving more minutes over recent weeks, earning his first start of the season during last weekend’s victory over Southampton after coming off the bench to score a dramatic late equaliser against Tottenham the week before.
Tosun would have been hoping to build on that uplift in form during the international break, but Turkey boss Senol Gunes has now ruled the forward out of both his country’s matches against Iceland and Andorra due to a groin injury, although the problem is not believed to be too severe.
Gunes told Turkish TV channel TRT Spor: “Cenk Tosun is injured. It doesn’t seem very serious, but most probably he won’t be playing in [Turkey’s] next two matches.”
Tosun will be hoping to overcome the problem ahead of Everton’s next Premier League match at home to Norwich on November 23, as he will be doing all he can to retain his place in the side after waiting so long for a first-team chance.
