Three Chelsea Players Set For FA Cup Opportunity To Shine Against Hull

Chelsea will be trying to advance to the FA Cup fifth round when they meet Hull tonight.

If the Blues defeat the Championship high-flyers at the MKM Stadium, they will advance to the competition’s round of 16.

The match is a homecoming for former Hull player and manager Liam Rosenior, but it is also a major opportunity for some of Chelsea’s fringe players to shine, with their head coach poised to make changes.

Standard Sport evaluates three Chelsea players with potential to excel.

On the bench against Wolves and Leeds, Hull provides an excellent opportunity for Mamadou Sarr to start at centre-back and make his first Chelsea appearance since being recalled early from a loan spell at Strasbourg.

He performed well in the first half of the season in France (under Rosenior) before winning the Africa Cup of Nations with Senegal.

Rosenior has essentially assured that Sarr will play for Hull, saying: “Mamadou has a strong chance to start the game.

“He understands my expectations and demands for the players.

“He needs time to acclimatise, but now I think he’s in a really good place and he’ll definitely see the pitch at some point on Friday.”

The 20-year-old might become a valuable addition to Rosenior’s centre-back options as the season progresses, but first he needs get off to a good start in only his second appearance for Chelsea.

His debut appearance was an eight-minute cameo from the bench against ES Tunis in the Club World Cup last summer.

It is unclear who he will join in defence, but Chelsea fans will undoubtedly keep a careful eye on his performance.
