Thomas Tuchel Made Mason Greenwood Stance Clear After Latest England Squad Omission

Thomas Tuchel has already made his position on Mason Greenwood crystal clear after leaving him out again.

Greenwood was not included in England national football team’s latest squad for friendlies against Uruguay and Japan this month.

Despite his strong scoring form for Olympique de Marseille, Tuchel has previously insisted the former Manchester United forward is simply not being considered.

Tuchel shuts door as Greenwood eyes Jamaica switch

Speaking last year, Tuchel said Greenwood was “not in our thoughts” and revealed he had no contact with the player.

The England boss also pointed to Greenwood’s reported intention to switch allegiance to Jamaica, which effectively removed him from England planning.

Greenwood has since taken steps toward representing Jamaica and reportedly secured a Jamaican passport, although his international switch remains incomplete currently.

That means the 24-year-old still has no senior appearance since his lone England cap, earned back in 2020 under Gareth Southgate, reports Mirror.

Although his form in France has revived football debate around his talent, Tuchel’s comments suggest an England recall remains highly unlikely.

For now, Greenwood’s international future appears far more likely to lie with Jamaica than with England before the 2026 World Cup.
