“This Is Not Football” Man City’s Rodri Blasts Scotland Tactics

After Spain suffered an unexpected loss in their Euro ’24 qualifying match at Hampden Park, Rodri denounced Scotland’s “rubbish” tactics.

To kick off their Euro 2024 qualifying campaign, Scotland defeated Spain for the first time since 1984. Thanks to two goals from Scott McTominay. The Manchester United ace has now scored two braces in as many days.

Both teams were eager to go to the ground at any given chance during the fractious game. And Scotland did everything they could in the second half to slow things down and pass the time.

There were several altercations during the game. One involving Andy Robertson and Pedro Porro. This caused the Tartan Army to boo the Tottenham player at every touch before he was substituted at half-time.

Spain have now lost just three games in a qualifying match since 2006. And it’s the first time in nine years that they’ve lost in European qualifying.

But they still have a good chance of winning Group A and securing a trip to Germany for the next summer.

However, Rodri criticized Steve Clarke’s team after the game. For what he believed to be Scotland’s time-wasting tactics and the referee’s reaction to them.

“It’s the way they play – for me, it’s a bit rubbish,” the Manchester City midfielder told Viaplay as reported by Independent

“It’s always wasting time, they provoke you, they always fall. For me, this is not football.

“The referee has to take a part in this, but he said nothing. It’s a bit frustrating because we want to win and it’s difficult because they waste time, waste time.

“It is what it is. They have their weapons, we have our weapons, and we will learn for next time.”
