The scramble begins as Kane tells Tottenham he wants to leave this summer

Harry Kane has informed Tottenham he wants to leave this summer sparking a £150million scramble for the England captain.

The centre-forward’s desire to leave Spurs has been an open secret for over a year – and the 27-year-old has now told chairman Daniel Levy he wants to join a new club before next season.

Spurs have been bracing themselves for the bombshell for a number of weeks having privately indicated that Kane would not be available for any price this summer.

There remains a feeling at Tottenham that no club will get close to the £150million that it would take for them to consider selling Kane. Nevertheless, Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United are among the clubs with genuine interest.

He is understood to want his future resolved quickly — ideally with a move sorted by the start of the Euros in 24 days’ time.

But that appears very unlikely given his huge price tag.

Levy is a fierce negotiator and given the club do not want to sell their prize asset, he will look to secure the full valuation for Kane.

Staff at the training ground are unhappy at the timing of Kane’s announcement, with the club set to welcome back 10,000 fans for their game against Aston Villa on Wednesday night.

Sources claim Spurs will steadfastly refuse to sell Kane to a Premier League rival.

It is believed Kane would prefer to remain in England, but is open to a move abroad. Only Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid could realistically afford Kane.

According to Daily Mail, Juventus also view Kane as a dream signing — but there is doubt over whether the Italian club can afford the wages of Cristiano Ronaldo and Kane, who has said he wants to win ‘the biggest trophies’.

Spurs’ recruitment staff have already started the process of identifying Kane’s successor.

On Monday night the club insisted their focus is on finishing the season as strongly as possible and ‘that’s what everyone should be focused on’.
