Switzerland star Xhaka drops huge Roma transfer hint

Granit Xhaka dropped a massive hint that he is going to join Roma after helping Switzerland knock France out of Euro 2020.

The Arsenal midfielder was named Man of the Match after the 3-3 draw, which saw Switzerland win on penalties.

He spoke to Sky Sport Italia after the game and was asked if he would give the interview in Italian.

“Italian? Not yet…” was his response.

He carried on in English and made no secret of the imminent move to Jose Mourinho’s Roma.

“For the country I think anyone in Switzerland can be very proud of the team, because to recover from 3-1 down against this France, with this incredible spirit, it’s remarkable.

“Now we go forward, there’s Spain in the quarter-finals and we played them a few months ago.”

Inevitably, the Sky Sport Italia reporter had to follow up that ‘not yet’ comment with a question, suggesting some very good language schools in Rome.

“It’s always interesting to learn a new language. I learned English, why not learn Italian? Let’s see what happens, everyone knows what Roma represents. Today I am an Arsenal player, then I’ll decide my future after the Euros.”

Mourinho made it clear from the very first moment he took the Roma job that Xhaka was a primary transfer target for the Giallorossi.

Xhaka turns 29 in September and his contract with Arsenal runs to June 2023, but he has his heart set on joining Mou at the Stadio Olimpico and in Serie A next season.

The offer is believed to be €12m plus €3m in bonuses.
