Steve Cooper Signs New Nottingham Forest Contract Until 2025

Nottingham Forest have made the shock announcement that Steve Cooper has signed a new three-year contract that will keep him at the City Ground until 2025.

Despite steering the East Midlands club to Premier League promotion in 2021-22, Cooper has appeared to be under pressure for the majority of this season.

That has been especially evident in recent weeks, with Forest suffering five consecutive Premier League defeats, surrendering 18 goals in the process.

As per reports, the offer of a new contract was withdrawn because Steve Cooper did not want to commit his future beyond the end of this campaign.

Also, it was reported that owner Evangelos Marinakis was contemplating options in the dugout and was preparing to shake things up behind the scenes.

However, on Friday morning, Forest announced that they had negotiated new terms with the 42-year-old, committing him to the club for the next three years.

Forest alluded to the latest Cooper rumours during the formalities of a statement posted on the club’s official website.

It said: “It is now important that our focus is solely on football. As a group we are all concentrated and will do everything we can to help the team move up the league table and once again demonstrate our qualities that led us to the Premier League.”

The news comes just two days after Forest named Filippo Giraldi as their new sporting director, with the goal of bringing more stability to the club’s transfer operations in the future.

Over 20 players were signed for the first squad during the summer transfer window as Forest looked to make an impact after winning the Championship playoffs.

Instead, Forest are currently bottom of the table with four points, having suffered their sixth defeat in eight games on Monday night, a 4-0 setback against rivals Leicester City.

To coincide with rumors of Cooper being sacked, speculation has persisted about interest from other teams, including Southampton, who are reportedly considering dismissing Ralph Hasenhuttl.

Steve Cooper, on the other hand, will now stay at Forest in the long term and prepare for Monday’s home game against Aston Villa.
