Solskjaer line up Sancho swoop in bid to bolster Man United after Europa League heartbreak

Manchester United are leading the chase to sign Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho this summer, according to reports.

The Red Devils were in talks to sign the England winger for the majority of last summer but failed to thrash out a deal with the German outfit, who refused to back down on their £108million asking price.

According to Daily Mail, United – still hurting after their Europa League final defeat to Villarreal – are lining up Sancho as part of a bid to bolster the squad and transform it into trophy winners, with boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer putting him at the top of his wishlist.

And Old Trafford is the ‘most realistic’ destination for Sancho as a number of teams prepare to lure him from the Bundesliga, according to Sky Sports.

Sancho has plenty of admirers across Europe, the report claims, although United are at the front of the queue for him – with Dortmund set to listen to offers for their star midfielder when the transfer window opens.

They are yet to name their price for him, it continues. but the asking price will be ‘significantly less’ than the fee they were demanding last summer, and could be willing to let him leave for around £80m.

Should Sancho depart, Dortmund have a handful of targets who could replace him – including Lille’s Jonathan Ikone and Monaco star Sofiane Diop, Sky adds.

Solskjaer is hunting up to four new players to revamp his playing staff after the disappointing display in Gdansk, which his side lost on penalties after a 1-1 draw.

The Norwegian played his best starting line-up but the lack of quality options on his bench was telling as he failed to make a sub until ten minutes into extra time.

It is understood that nited are also in the market for a centre-back to play alongside Harry Maguire and were impressed by Villarreal’s Pau Torres in the final, while they retain and interest in long-term target Raphael Varane.

Speaking after the conclusion the Premier League season, Solskjaer highlighted the need for the team to strengthen if they are to compete with rivals Manchester City for the title.
