Simeone Says Morata Can Still End Up At Manchester United

Alvaro Morata’s future has been updated by Diego Simeone, the manager of Atletico Madrid, amid rumors that Manchester United may be interested in signing the former Chelsea striker.

After Cristiano Ronaldo generated numerous exit rumors at Old Trafford and Edinson Cavani left as a free agent, the Red Devils are still looking for offensive reinforcements.

The Red Devils are rumored to be interested in Morata, who has spent the last two seasons on loan at Juventus.

The 29-year-old forward has Premier League experience from a previous stint at Stamford Bridge.

However, the La Liga powerhouses claim that Morata has a place in their plans.

What Did Simeone Say About Morata?

Morata scored twice in his first game for Atletico Madrid in the 2022–23 season as they defeated Getafe 3-0.

Simeone was quick to point out after that match that the Spain international can play a part for him.

The Argentine coach admitted that a deal might be approved above his authority.

He told reporters: “I am not the owner of the club, I am the coach. Everyone at the club hopes he continues.

“He is working very well, in an extraordinary way.

“I think that all footballers need to have confidence to do important things. He came back with great humility and wanting to work. He came back trying hard.”

How Well Was Morata’s Spell At Chelsea?

While on loan at Juventus, Morata scored 32 goals, compared to the 22 goals he scored for Atletico across a season-and-a-half before that.

With 26 goals in 56 games for Spain, he has a respectable strike rate at international level, but he struggled to have a major impact during his earlier stay in England.

Morata cost Chelsea a club record £60m ($72m) in the summer of 2017, but he only managed to score 24 goals in 72 games before returning to Spain.

One of those goals came against United, who are reportedly keeping a close eye on his situation. In November 2017, he scored the game-winning goal against the Red Devils at Stamford Bridge.
