Alan Shearer is one of the England legends to react to the reports that Marc Guehi will be on bench for the Three Lions’ World Cup opening match against Croatia.
Tuchel’s side will begin their World Cup campaign on Wednesday night in Dallas against Group L rivals Croatia, which might be a very difficult match.
After coming quite near to winning a major tournament under former manager Sir Gareth Southgate, England are now considered one of the favourites to win the World Cup.
Southgate’s team advanced to the semi-finals of the 2018 World Cup and the European Championship finals before losing in the quarterfinals in Qatar four years ago.

England put their faith in Tuchel, the former manager of Chelsea and PSG, in the hopes that the German can end 60 years of hurt out in the United States.
However, suggestions that Tuchel will bench Guehi for the World Cup opener and pair John Stones with Ezri Konsa in defence have already shocked a number of England legends.
Guehi Set To Be On Bench In England’s World Cup Opener
Guehi, who was among England’s top players at Euro 2024, arrived at the United States following an outstanding season for Manchester City and Crystal Palace.
“Judging By the reports, if you believe them, it looks like it’s going to be John Stones and Ezri Konsa so Marc Guehi would be the one to miss out,” Shearer said on The Rest is Football.
“I would start Guehi and Konsa, just because of Stones’ lack of football, he didn’t play much this season and this is obviously a very important game.
“So I would go with Guehi and Konsa. It will be a big surprise if Guehi is left out, not many people wouldn’t have started Guehi in this first game.”
Fellow former England striker Gary Lineker agreed with Shearer’s assessment, saying: “I would certainly start Marc Guehi. If Stones is fit I would start him as well.”
