Real Madrid defender, Raul Asencio has reportedly expressed excitement over Bernardo Silva’s possible arrival and the club’s fresh start under Jose Mourinho as Los Blancos complete Marc Cucurella’s move from Chelsea.
The centre back spoke with Spanish reporters about a variety of subjects while at the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix at Montmelo, including Spain’s World Cup campaign and Real Madrid’s future.
On Mourinho’s Arrival
Asencio voiced his enthusiasm for Mourinho’s return to the Santiago Bernabeu in an interview with ElDesmarque as reported by Madrid Universal, recalling the influence the Portuguese coach had during his initial tenure at the team.
“Now, with Mourinho’s new project, I think it’s very exciting and I’m really looking forward to starting,” the Real Madrid defender said.
“I was little and I saw it, how the team changed, the competitiveness he introduced to the club, the passion and grit … I think those are characteristics that define me as a player.”
On Silva’s Transfer
Asencio also commented on the speculation that Bernardo Silva had already agreed a move to Real Madrid and was full of praise for the experienced Portuguese international.
“He’s very, very good, it would be a real boost for the team,” acknowledged the academy graduate.
“We’ll welcome anyone that comes with open arms and we’re sure that the project being built is incredible.”

Real Madrid have confirmed the signature of Cucurella from Chelsea after agreeing a fee worth £52 million for the defender.
In an official statement, the club announced: “Real Madrid CF and Chelsea FC have reached an agreement for the transfer of the player Marc Cucurella, who will be linked to our club for the next six seasons, until June 30, 2032.”
The 2024 European Championship winner is presently with Spain for the World Cup and will immediately join his new teammates after the competition is over.
His departure signifies the end of an era as Chelsea’s backline gets ready for life under their own new management.
