Sergio Aguero Claims Ronaldo Is Not A Better Goalscorer Than Messi

Former Manchester City and Argentina striker, Sergio Aguero insisted his compatriot, Lionel Messi is a better goalscorer than Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Argentine claimed that Ronaldo goals are ‘pure luck’ and free-kicks. Further stating that the likes of Raul Gonzalez and Karim Benzema scored better goals than the legendary Portuguese.

This came after Messi netted in PSG’s 2-0 win over Nice in the Ligue 1. The goal saw the 35-year-old surpass Ronaldo’s record of the most club goals in Europe with 702 goals.

According to Medio Tiempo, during a live stream on Twitch, Aguero questioned the caliber of Ronaldo’s goal total in comparison to Messi. Stating that he thought the Portuguese frequently benefited from a significant amount of luck.

Aguero said while backing Messi over Ronaldo: “Look where he scores the goal from. Come on. All free-kick goals and pure luck. Messi’s are all at the angle, stupid. But what does [Ronaldo] do? Goalkeeper’s fault. I think Raul has better goals, [Karim] Benzema I think he has better ones.”

Off the field, Aguero and Messi have a remarkable friendship. Aguero’s son Benjamin has Messi as his godfather. And it’s thought that the striker decided to switch from Manchester City to Barcelona in 2021 so that he could be in the same locker room as the Argentinian great. However, Aguero was unable to realize his dream because Messi departed for PSG in the same summer.
