Alexis Sanchez reportedly sees no future at Manchester United despite Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believing he could still have something to offer his side.
The Chile star has spent the season on loan at Inter Milan and is hopeful of making his move to the Serie A side permanent.
Sanchez has rediscovered his best form in the latter stages of his loan at Inter with three goals and seven assists in the last nine games.
The 31-year-old winger is due back at United on August 7 with nearly two years left on a contract that is worth up to £560,000 a week including £300,000 in basic salary and image rights of £100,000.
United have ruled out sending him back out on loan but his wages are proving to be a major obstacle in Inter’s bid to sign the forward permanently.
According to the Daily Star, United are keen to give Sanchez another chance but the player has told club bosses he wants to play his football elsewhere.
Sanchez signed for United in a swap deal from Arsenal back in 2018 but the move has largely been seen as a failure after he struggled to recapture the form which saw him establish himself as one of the Premier League’s best at the Emirates Stadium.
A source told the Daily Star: ‘Alexis doesn’t see the point in going back to Manchester. He’s happy where he is. It just didn’t work out for him at United and he wants the club to accept that he wants to leave.’
Inter are reportedly willing to pay in the region of £30m for Sanchez while the player is understood to be ready to take a pay cut in order to secure a move away from United.
Inter chief Giuseppe Marotta confirmed the club are working on a deal for Sanchez but admitted it would not be straightforward.
He said: ‘It’s not easy because he has a two-year contract with Manchester United, so we have to evaluate the situation.
‘But it would be a shame if we couldn’t reach an agreement, because we want Sanchez today and tomorrow.’
