Sad Pre-World Cup Ending For Nkunku, Frenchman Injured In Training

Christopher Nkunku has been ruled out of the World Cup after suffering an injury during a France training session.

The forward was ruled out of the competition, which begins on Sunday, after clashing with Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga on Tuesday at the French National Football Centre in Clairefontaine.

A statement from the French national team read: “Injured in training, Christopher Nkunku must give up participating in the World Cup.

“The whole group shares Christopher’s sadness and wishes him a speedy recovery.”

Eintracht Frankfurt forward Randal Kolo Muani will replace Nkunku, RMC Sport, as quoted by Get French Football News, reports.

It’s a huge blow in Les Bleus’ quest to retain their crown with Paul Pogba and N’Golo Kante also missing the finals with injuries.

Meanwhile, France boss Didier Deschamps is also sweating on the fitness of Raphael Varane, who’s recovering from a knee injury sustained on October 22.

Nkunku, who looks set to join Chelsea this summer, has been in fine form for RB Leipzig this season with 17 goals in 23 club appearances.

The 25-year-old is at the top of the goalscoring charts in the Bundesliga this season with 12 strikes.

Nkunku also helped Leipzig to the last-16 of the Champions League with three goals in their group matches.

Deschamps still has the likes of Karim Benzema, Kingsley Coman, Kylian Mbappe and Antoine Griezmann to call upon but the news will be heartbreaking for Nkunku.
