Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney hailed Memphis Depay for his astonishing goal from the halfway line during Lyon’s win over Toulouse on Sunday.
Depay, who left Old Trafford in January in a deal worth £15million, turned in the centre-circle before unleashing a sublime strike to catch the Toulouse stopper off his line.
And Rooney wasted no time to praise his former team-mate for the spectacular effort, tweeting: ‘Great goal mate’, to which Depay replied:

Depay, 23, joined the Red Devils in 2015 from PSV but endured a frustrating time at the Theatre of Dreams.
The forward only scored four goals in his 33 league appearances for United, before being offloaded to Ligue 1 outfit Lyon.
