REPORT: Cavani informs Manchester United he’ll be leaving this summer

Edinson Cavani has informed Manchester United chiefs he will be leaving this summer, according to multiple reports in South America.

The Uruguayan striker has been in scintillating form recently with three goals in as many outings, despite his father claiming last month he is unhappy and would like to move nearer his family.

Cavani has two-and-a-half months remaining on his contract and while there is an option to extend for another season, it would require both the player and the club to agree to activate this clause.

And the former Paris Saint-Germain ace will pass up this opportunity in order to leave Old Trafford this summer.

That’s according to Uruguayan television channel Punto Penal , which reports Cavani has his heart set on putting European football behind him.

Argentine outlet Doble Amarilla provided further details on the situation; they claim Cavani informed the Red Devils hierarchy of his intention to leave for South America at the end of the season after the 3-1 win over Burnley on Sunday.

The report adds Cavani appreciates the efforts United have made to keep him, but he is intent on moving closer to his family.

Meanwhile, Boca Juniors are still in pole position to sign the veteran striker and Argentine publication TyC Sports claims the club are reserving their No.7 and No.9 jerseys – Cavani’s favourite shirt numbers – ahead of his arrival this summer.

Speaking last month, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer implied the ball was in Cavani’s court as he discussed his future at Manchester United.

“I cannot comment on what has been said, I can only say that we’re very pleased with Edinson,” said Solskjaer. “He’s really helping the young kids, as we wanted him to.

“He will make his decision and he knows that we are very fond of what he’s given to the club, even though he’s probably played less games than he wanted.”
