REPORT: Arsenal pull out of Chukwueze deal following disagreements with Diamond Academy

Arsenal have pulled out of a deal to sign Nigeria teenage sensation Samuel Chukwueze following disagreements with his club Diamond Academy Umuahia.

The 16-year old striker who has been linked with a move to the Gunners for months has already undergone medicals and agreed personal terms, although no official confirmation of a deal has been made.

However, according to a source close to the deal who spoke on the condition of anonymity, Arsenal decided to withdraw the offer they made for Chukwueze following what they termed “erratic and unprofessional behaviour” by Diamond Academy.

Arsenal had agreed a deal of £1.5m for Chukwueze, with an extra £1m if he makes the first team, but disagreement started when Diamond Academy allegedly requested for an upfront payment of 40% of the transfer fee, but Arsenal declined payment, saying they will only pay 10% of the money upfront because the player was a minor and the remaining balance when he turns 18, to avoid FIFA ban.

Arsene Wenger, the source said, found the behaviour very erratic and unprofessional, so they have decided to withdraw the offer.

The source told Complete Sports: “Arsenal last week Tuesday informed Diamond Academy of their unwillingness to proceed with the deal despite the fact that the player has agreed personal terms and done a medical.

“Arsenal are still interested in the player, but they don’t want to deal with Diamond Academy due to their lack of transparency and unprofessional behaviour.”
