Redknapp hails Yaya Toure’s return as “one of the best comebacks since Lazarus”

Jamie Redknapp said he is happy to see Yaya Toure back after he scored two goals on his Manchester City return against Crystal Palace.

Following remarks made by Toure’s agent, Dimitri Seluk, at the end of August, Pep Guardiola told Toure he would not start until his reps Rena stive apologised.

At the beginning of November, the 33-year-old apologised on Seluk’s behalf but this did not seem to change Guardiola’s stance.

However, against Palace, Guardiola finally started the Man City legend and Toure was back with a bang, bagging a brace as the Citizens gained a crucial win.

Redknapp wrote in Daily Mail: “I couldn’t believe it on Saturday when I saw Yaya Toure on the scoresheet for Manchester City. It’s got to be one of the best comebacks since Lazarus!

“It put a smile on my face when I picked up my phone, looked at the scores and saw the big man’s name.

“Toure is one of my all-time favourites and I love the sight of him marauding through the midfield. Pep Guardiola deserves praise for burying the hatchet. We have short memories in football but a fit Yaya is as good as any midfielder in the league.”

Against Palace, Toure completed 89% of his passes, while he was also successful with 100% of his take-ons. Last season, he scored six goals in 32 appearances for the club, and now he already has a tally of two in one game.

Following his older brother Kolo, Yaya joined City from Barcelona in July 2010, during his six years at the club, the midfielder has won two Premier League titles, two League Cups and the FA Cup.

Manchester City are now joint second with Liverpool on 27 points and their next Premier League game sees them face Burnley on Saturday at Turf Moor.
