Harry Redknapp has backed Arsenal legend Thierry Henry to replace Arsene Wenger at the Emirates Stadium.
Speculation continues to mount regarding the manager’s future at the club, with reports of a two-year deal agreed being quickly followed by Ian Wright’s claim that Wenger’s time is “coming to an end.”
Henry is currently part of Belgium’s coaching setup, having previously enjoyed a spell with the Gunners Under-18 side and Redknapp was quick to suggest him returning to his old stomping ground for the top job.
When asked by Shoot who is the best candidate to replace Wenger, Redknapp replied: “Thierry Henry.”
Arsenal’s title challenge appears over for another season, extending their run without winning the Premier League to 13 years, despite Saturday’s 2-0 win over Hull City.
Redknapp has acknowledged the impact Wenger has had in north London and hopes any exit is on his terms.
He said: “It will be his decision, I don’t ever see [the board] pushing him out. He has got so much control and power there.
“Arsene will go when he feels it is time. But, you just hope, because he has been such a great manager, that he doesn’t overstay his welcome.
“You can see the fans turning on him, he doesn’t deserve that. But sometimes you have got to think that maybe it is time to go and move on.”
