Real Madrid To Rival Tottenham For Mauricio Pochettino

Tottenham Hotspur could face competition to re-hire Mauricio Pochettino, with Real Madrid reportedly interested in hiring him as their new manager.

Following his relentless attack on his “selfish” players, the Lilywhites are poised to sack Antonio Conte during the international break.

The Italian supposedly told the board that his statements were mainly aimed at the players, some of whom allegedly want him dismissed before domestic football returns.

If Conte leaves with assistant Cristian Stellini, Ryan Mason would likely take over until the end of the season, and the former Chelsea coach’s contract will expire in the summer even if he survives the sack.

Despite his reservations, a reunion with Pochettino is being considered by Levy, who dismissed the Argentine only a few months after guiding Spurs to the Champions League final in 2019.

However, according to The Times, Real Madrid could attempt to bring Pochettino back into management if Carlo Ancelotti steps down in the near future.

According to the report, Blancos president Florentino Perez has been interested in hiring Pochettino for several years, and he is a prominent contender on Real Madrid’s managerial shortlist.

Ancelotti’s current deal at Real Madrid expires at the end of next season, although the 63-year-old has stated a desire to remain in charge for as long as possible.

After being relieved of his duties in North London, Pochettino took over as manager of Paris Saint-Germain in 2021, where he won the Ligue 1 title, Cup de France, and Trophee des Champions.

The 51-year-old is said to have told Tottenham that he is open to a return, having already turned down an offer from Chelsea to replace Graham Potter if the Englishman is let go.
