A year is a long time in sports, and Real Madrid midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni understands that. Despite being linked with a move away last summer, the Frenchman appears to be staying at the Bernabeu for the foreseeable future.
Tchouameni was utilized as a center defender at times under Carlo Ancelotti due to an injury issue, as well as in a dysfunctional midfield. After receiving harsh criticism, he was whistled by the Bernabeu in January 2025, and there was much speculation that Los Blancos would explore bids for him in the summer.
However, Tchouameni has improved under both Xabi Alonso and Alvaro Arbeloa this season, becoming one of their most consistent performers.

Real Madrid open contract talks with Tchouameni
When it looked as if Tchouameni would be available, both Liverpool and Manchester United were interested in a potential deal for the France international.
Yet Sport believe that Real Madrid have now initiated talks with Tchouameni over a new contract. His current contract expires in 2028, but Real Madrid wants to avoid any tough negotiations and is looking to extend it until 2031.
Tchouameni appears to have secured a long-term role in Real Madrid’s midfield. Even if Los Blancos search for another midfielder to run the game in the summer, it appears that any addition would be a supplement to Tchouameni rather than a replacement.
Eduardo Camavinga, Tchouameni’s compatriot, has never established himself as a regular starter and has struggled with injuries over the last two seasons, so his future is less guaranteed. The 23-year-old’s contract expires in 2029, but with Tchouameni and Fede Valverde ahead of him in the pecking order and another midfielder on the way, Real Madrid is set to accept bids for Camavinga.
