Ranieri reveals exact moment he started to believe Leicester could win the title

Claudio Ranieri has revealed the exact moment he finally started to believe Leicester City could win the Premier League title.

The Foxes were presented with the top-flight trophy on Saturday evening after they were handed the title by Tottenham Hotspur earlier in the week, with Claudio Ranieri’s former employers Chelsea doing them a favour at Stamford Bridge by drawing.

Leicester were crowned champions after an emphatic 3-1 defeat of Everton but after running away with top spot, few believed that last year’s relegation strugglers would genuinely remain at the league’s summit come May.

Ranieri’s men have continued to tick off the matches and in the wake of the celebrations at the King Power Stadium this weekend, Ranieri has revealed when he genuinely thought his side has the moment wrapped up for good.

“I think when we won at Man City,” he told Sky Sports when the question was put to him.

Leicester went to the Etihad Stadium on the 6th February 2016 sitting top of the table, but second-placed Manchester City were firmly expected to win the clash and send Ranieri’s men tumbling.

But a fourth-minute Robert Huth goal set the tone for a stunning away win over Manuel Pellegrini’s charges, with Huth netting again later in the game along with PFA Player of the Year Riyad Mahrez to seal a crucial three points and set a marker down for the remainder of the campaign.

Leicester have lost just one of 12 Premier League fixtures since and with one game to go before a wonderful season is officially done and dusted, Ranieri and co will be hoping to cap it all off with a victory over last year’s winners Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
