Premier League Star Desire To Leave Club Amid Contract Renewal

Fulham midfielder, Joao Palhinha has reportedly stated that he desires to play at a ‘higher’ level, casting doubt over his future at the club.

The Portugal international was just hours away to join Bayern Munich going further to board a flight to Bavaria for a medical ahead of a move in the summer. But Fulham turned down the £57 million offer because they couldn’t find a replacement.

Following the transfer collapse, Palhinha agreed to a contract extension that would last until 2028 with a one-year option. Although it’s unclear if Bayern will launch a new offer in January, they have been monitoring the Fulham player’s performances.

What Did Palhinha Say About His Fulham’s Future?

According to the Evening Standard, Palhinha acknowledged during a press conference held prior to Portugal’s contests against Iceland and Liechtenstein in the 2024 European Championship qualifiers.

“I don’t know what will happen in the future,” he said.

“I want to keep going the way I’ve been going. Nobody has given me anything throughout my career, everything I’ve achieved is down to my worth, my work.

“I hope it stays that way. I’m 28, but I know I can go higher and I’m looking to the future with that ambition.”

Speaking on his failed transfer to Bayern, he continued: “It’s really affected me and my family. But that’s all in the past, I don’t want to think about it too much. It’s a great source of pride, you know what happened.

“In my life, everything that has happened has been for a reason, I like to think of it like that.

“The future will tell me whether what happened was really what had to happen or not, but only the future will show me that.”
