Premier League Coach Set To Be Third Managerial Casualty Of The Season

Crystal Palace are reportedly ready to sack Roy Hodgson and replace him with UEFA Europa League winner Oliver Glasner.

With the team in danger of relegation, Hodgson returned to Selhurst Park in March 2023 on a temporary contract. He was retained for the 2023–24 season following a strong finish to the season. But the pressure has increased on the former England manager following a run of three victories in the last 17 league games.

The 76-year-old had been understood to be in danger of the sack if his side had lost to Sheffield United in January.

Three points in that contest bought him some time. But an injury to star man Michael Olise against Brighton – after Hodgson brought him on at 3-0 down – hasn’t helped things.

A handful of names have been linked with Hodgson’s job, including former Premier League managers Julen Lopetegui and Steve Cooper. However, Glasner, the former manager of Eintracht Frankfurt, appears to be a front-runner right now.

The Guardian claims that Glasner is ‘lined up’ in the event that Hodgson is relieved of his responsibilities. The 49-year-old Austrian led Frankfurt to Europa League triumph in 2022. Defeating Rangers in the final match and West Ham in the semifinals. However, he departed the club a year later.

With Palace just five points above the relegation zone, Steve Parish, the owner who lured Hodgson back to South London, is reportedly convinced that a change may be needed.

According to the Daily Mail, talks about a replacement have already started.

Hodgson could become just the third manager to be sacked in the Premier League this season. Paul Heckingbottom and Steve Cooper have already been axed by Sheffield United and Nottingham Forest respectively.
