Pochettino Defends Chelsea Training Method Following Lavia Injury Setback

Chelsea Manager, Mauricio Pochettino has reportedly quashed the theory that his training methods are behind the ongoing injury battle in his team. This is coming after Romeo Lavia suffered another injury setback and is set to miss the remainder of the campaign.

Lavia’s playing time at the end of his first season will be just 32 minutes. After arriving unfit, Lavia sustained an ankle injury that kept him out of action until December.

After making a brief appearance off the bench against Crystal Palace, he sustained a hamstring issue that has kept him out of action ever since.

The midfielder’s struggle with fitness may have been the most significant at Chelsea this season. But the Blues have struggled mightily with injuries all season long.

Nine players are currently out of action, according to the club’s most recent update. Trevoh Chalobah, Carney Chukwuemeka, and Robert Sanchez are the newest to join the group in the treatment room.

Many have attributed Chelsea’s fitness problems to Pochettino and his purportedly rigorous training program. But the manager maintained Lavia’s difficulties should show he cannot be held responsible.

What Did Pochettino Say About His Training Methods?

According to 90min, discussing Lavia, Pochettino said: “It’s difficult to explain the situation because I am not a doctor and be precise with the information.

“The most important thing is to make clear that in nine months, only a few weeks he was with us, training with us.

“He arrived and he could not train. When the club signed him, he was injured…I think it was his hip, or I don’t know, that was the problem. Then when he started to train with us, he suffered a knock in his feet.

“I don’t know, you showed me, ‘the methods of Pochettino are so hard’, no? But he didn’t train with me. He is sad. It is a sad situation.

“We hope he can become stronger and for sure, we are going to help him to become stronger and be available for the pre-season and the next season to show his quality.”
