Fiorentina midfielder, Sofyan Amrabat has reportedly rejected a move to Manchester United and other clubs for Atletico Madrid.
Rasmus Hojlund was the latest summer addition for the Red Devils, joining Andre Onana and Mason Mount. The signing of the 20-year-old was completed over the weekend.
A number of reports stated Amrabat is United’s primary priority in midfield. With earlier claims that the Moroccan star had approved a prospective transfer.
However, according to Spanish newspaper Sport as reported by Football 365, Amrabat has ‘rejected’ Man United in favor of signing for Atletico Madrid, with Liverpool and Barcelona among the other potential suitors.
Amrabat “want[s] to play” for Atletico Madrid. With Diego Simeone being a significant draw for the 26-year-old who has “made his intentions for the next season clear.”
With Fiorentina seeking for €40m for the former Club Brugge player. He feels that under the direction of the Atletico manager, he can experience “great growth as a footballer.”
Simeone “wants them to sign him because he considers him to be the ideal candidate to replace [Geoffrey] Kondogbia”. Even if it would be a “great financial effort” for the La Liga club.
Simeone views the footballer “very favorably”. And Amrabat has given Atletico the go-ahead after telling Fiorentina that he “wants to leave this summer.”
If this claim is true, Man United will look at alternative choices. Leeds United midfielder, Tyler Adams, who Chelsea are interested in, and Amadou Onana of Everton have been touted as potential alternatives.
According to the Daily Mail, United has “held discussions about the merits of Everton’s Amadou Onana and Leeds United’s Tyler Adams”. But those negotiations have not advanced.
