Pitch Invaders Target Salah During Egypt Clash Against Sierra Leone

Liverpool star, Mohamed Salah was targeted by pitch invaders in Egypt’s win over Sierra Leone with the military escorting the winger off the pitch.

At the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex in Liberia, fans stormed onto the field and surged towards Salah, who had helped his country win 2-0.

To keep the 31-year-old safe and out of harm’s way, security was forced to tackle fans to the ground and deliver punches.

Social media users have shared footage from the game which shows security personnel in hi-vis jackets scurrying onto the field to capture an intruder while others make their way onto the field.

According to the Irish Independent, Salah’s teammates raced to his defense. Mohamed Abdelmonem chased away a fan, and then Egyptian staff members and troops hurried onto the field to assist in forming a protective circle around Salah.

Although the reason for the pandemonium and the motivations behind the pitch invasion are still unknown. Salah maintained his composure as he was led down the tunnel.

The first pitch invader approached Salah non-confrontationally while donning a Liverpool shirt. But the same could not be true of the subsequent invaders.

Trezeguet’s double put Egypt ahead 2-0 before the incident happened. Sierra Leone were reduced to nine men when Tyrese Fornah and Abdul Jarju Kabia were sent off for second yellow cards.
