Paul Pogba Gives ‘Shocking’ Advice To Kobbie Mainoo On Man United Struggles

Paul Pogba has offered advice to Kobbie Mainoo regarding his future at Manchester United, stressing that regular playing time should be the most important factor in any decision he makes.

Mainoo has recently re-established himself in the starting XI under manager Michael Carrick after struggling for minutes during the tenure of former boss Ruben Amorim.

At one stage, the midfielder even considered a loan move in search of consistent football, with interest previously emerging from Napoli.

Now 21, Mainoo will enter the final 12 months of his contract this summer, although reports suggest Manchester United are planning to offer him a new long-term deal.

Pogba Shares Personal Experience

Speaking on the Rio Ferdinand Presents podcast, Pogba—who also came through United’s academy before leaving in 2012—reflected on his own career path when giving advice to Mainoo.

He explained that a player’s decision often depends on trust from the manager and guaranteed minutes on the pitch, suggesting that if those are lacking, a move away could become a serious option.

However, Pogba also admitted the situation is complex, noting Mainoo’s talent and importance to the club’s supporters.

He said it is difficult to recommend leaving a club where a player is highly valued and still developing, reports Express.

The former United midfielder added that while leaving for more opportunities can be beneficial, staying and building a career at Old Trafford is also a realistic and rewarding path.

Pogba himself left Manchester United for Juventus in 2012 before returning in 2016, a reminder of how unpredictable football careers can be.

He concluded by expressing his admiration for Mainoo, saying he simply wants to see the young midfielder playing regularly and enjoying his football.
