Ozil: I would love to wear Arsenal’s No.10 shirt

Mesut Ozil revealed that he “would love to wear” Arsenal‘s No.10 shirt, claiming he’s always wanted it since moving to the club back in 2013.

Ozil has been one of Arsene Wenger’s star performers at the Emirates this season, as he’s linked up brilliantly with the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Theo Walcott and Alex Iwobi in the final third. However there’s been a cloud hanging over the German international’s long-term future at the club in the form of his current contract.

Ozil’s Arsenal deal expires in the summer of 2018, much like Sanchez, sparking fears among the support that he could leave, but a recent interview lifted the lid on his current mindset. Wenger’s contract also comes to an end that summer, with the 28-year-old strongly hinting that his decision could be influenced by that matter.

However Ozil also suggested that a change of shirt number could play a part in his decision, eyeing one jersey in particular.

“I would love to wear the 10 shirt, I always wanted that, the club knew from the beginning,” the playmaker told Kicker magazine (via 101 Great Goals). “When I came to Arsenal in 2013, Jack Wilshere already had the 10. The club said I would get the 10 when it was free.

“She has been free since Wilshere’s departure in the summer – I have not been able to do it yet.”
