Odemwingie joins Rotherham United on short-term deal

Nigeria striker Peter Odemwingie has signed for Rotherham United on a three- month contract.

The forward has been without a club since his deal with Stoke City expires this summer, allowing him to join Rotherham as a free agent.

He had a trial with newly-promoted Premier League outfit Hull City prior to the start of the season, but did not impress enough for a contract and was subsequently linked with a host of Championship clubs.

New Millers manager Kenny Jacket has won the race to Odemwingie’s signature, completing his first transfer with the bottom-placed club.

Rotherham have taken just six points from their opening 14 Championship fixtures this term, leaving them eight points adrift of safety at this early stage.

Their latest signing enjoyed the most prolific spell of his career at West Bromwich Albion from 2010-2013, netting 30 Premier League goals.

He struggled to maintain his place as a regular member of Mar Hughes’ starting XI at Stoke, though. After starting each of his first 17 appearances for the Potters, he was then used exclusively as a substitute.

The Nigeria international most recently played on 19th April, while on loan at Bristol City.

Odemwingie’s first game could come this Saturday against Ipswich Town, as Rotherham aim to end a run of six successive losses.
