Napoli Identify Osimhen’s Replacement

Serie A champions Napoli have identified Feyenoord’s Santiago Gimenezas a replacement for Victor Osimhen should the Nigerian decide not to end his stay at the club.

The Partenopei are still working to agree a new deal with Osimhen are also planning for a future without him.

Osimhen has less than two years on his contract with Napoli.

Off-pitch distractions have recently caused tension between him and the club.

According to Calciomercato, whilst Napoli are still prioritizing a new contract for the striker, they’ve already started sounding out a possible replacement should they ultimately fail to agree a new deal.

Gimenez has impressed for Feyenoord this season, netting 15 times and providing three assists in 11 outings across all competitions.

The Mexican is valued at around €40m and Napoli have already established contact with his entourage.

Osimhen’s current contract in Naples has two years left, but interest in him is still high across the continent, especially from high-spending Chelsea. The five-time Premier League champions are closely monitoring the situation and would need to make a significant choice if the 24-year-old decides not to sign new contracts with Napoli.

The club does acknowledge that a new alternative is needed if Mauricio Pochettino is going to have an opportunity of realising Chelsea’s objective of becoming a title challenger. Chelsea’s management is now divided over how to deal with their striker issues as of January.

Napoli have created a shortlist of candidates to take his place because his future at the club is uncertain. Jesus represents one of three players that the team is monitoring, according to Calciomercato.
