Mourinho’s second season title win tradition

Congratulations are in order for Chelsea FC, the players and fans all over the world. You guys deserve the chilliest bottle of your favourite brew because you’re worthy champions of the premier League having led practically from start to finish.

Along the way, you laid down some important markers and I dare say you’re already favourites to retain the title next season going by the quality of players at the manager’s disposal.

And, talking about the manager, I think special kudos should be given to Jose Mourinho not because he has a perfect fighting machine but because of his tactical acumen to drag a limping marathoner over the finish line in one piece.

In doing that, Mourinho re-enacted his fabled second season syndrome when he’s noted for winning big in the second year of his contract at any club, regardless of what he wins in the first season.

At Porto, Mourinho won the League and Champions League in his second season and did the same in his first coming at Chelsea.
He retained the Premier League after winning it in his first attempt in 2004/05 and when he moved to Inter Milan, the Portuguese won the treble in his second season to keep up his tradition.
At Real Madrid, he wrestled the La Liga title from Barcelona in his second season after winning just the Copa del rey in his first season.

Now he has done it again and this phenomenal achievement ought to be applauded. You don’t have to be a Chelsea fan (I’m not) to appreciate and give respect where it is due. Congrats, once again, to Mourinho and the Chelsea family. Enjoy your moment in the sun.
