Mourinho watches Man United target Arnautovic shine as Austria beat Russia

Marko Arnautovic may be a surprise transfer target for Manchester United after Jose Mourinho watched the Austria star face Russia last night.

It’s understood that Mourinho wants more power and height in attack to provide cover for Romelu Lukaku.

United only scored once in their last four games of the season after Lukaku suffered an ankle injury.

Arnautovic, 29, would cost around £40million following a fine season at West Ham, although his club say he is not for sale and that no enquiries have been made.

Mourinho saw Austria beat World Cup hosts Russia 1-0.

United have also been linked with Mario Mandzukic after Juventus told the Croat he can leave if he wants.

However, it is unlikely that Mourinho would sign either player if United were able to land Gareth Bale.

And the Portuguese manager, attempting to keep a low profile wearing a baseball cap, was watching closely as the 29-year-old Arnautovic helped his country beat this summer’s World Cup hosts 1-0 at the Tivoli Stadium.

Arnautovic played a key role in the hard-fought victory, teeing up Alessandro Schopf to score what proved to be the winner shortly before half-time.

The Hammers forward was played through on the right before cutting inside and picking out Schopf, who ran on to apply the finish from just inside the box.
