Mikel Arteta Updates Jesus On The Latest Injury News As Arsenal Prepares To Face Sevilla

Mikel Arteta faces a number of significant team selection decisions for Arsenal’s Champions League clash against Sevilla. The Gunners won the away fixture in Spain with goals from Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus, although they will have to do so without the latter at Emirates Stadium.

In the last stages of that game, Jesus pulled up clutching his hamstring, having missed the previous three games and will be out again on Wednesday. “Gabby won’t be fit, Martin is still uncertain, the rest no news so far,” he stated on Tuesday.

Captain Martin Odegaard has been suffering with a hip ailment in recent weeks, missing Premier League games against Sheffield United and Newcastle, as well as a Carabao Cup cameo against West Ham.

The absent duo have been replaced by Emile Smith Rowe and Eddie Nketiah, albeit both may miss the European match.

“He felt something in his knee and started to feel some pain after the game,” he said. “We are assessing him, but [it’s] a big worry with him. He’s going to be out for weeks.” Meanwhile Nketiah, just seven days on from his hat-trick against Sheffield United, has picked up a knock that saw him miss Tuesday’s training session in front of reporters, although it is a minor issue and he could be available for selection to play Sevilla, as football.london understands.

Thomas Partey and Jurrien Timber may not be seen for the remainder of the Champions League group stages with knee injuries. Aside from the injuries, Arteta faces a number of dilemmas across the pitch starting in between the sticks with another moment of madness from David Raya costing Arsenal against Newcastle which could see Aaron Ramsdale return.

A welcome return

Martin Odegaard could make a return to the XI after three games without a start. Arteta was reluctant to confirm his exact availability for the game but with Arsenal likely to dominate, his creative nous could be useful as proven by his performance against PSV in September.

A necessary change in attack

The absence of Nketiah could be a huge blow, but it would likely provide Trossard with a chance to shine. The versatile Belgian can play in a number of positions and him frequently swapping roles with Martinelli could cause a number of problems for their Spanish opponents.
