Messi, Miami Beaten By Dallas In Pre-season Friendly

Messi and former Barcelona teammates Luis Suarez and Sergio Busquets were all substituted after 64 minutes with Miami trailing 1-0.

In damp, chilly circumstances at Cotton Bowl Stadium, Miami put on another forgettable show following Friday’s dull 0-0 stalemate with El Salvador.

After 64 minutes, with Miami behind 1-0, Argentine sensation Messi, along with former Barcelona teammates Luis Suarez and Sergio Busquets, were all replaced.

During his time on the field, Messi created a few opportunities. His best shot came early in the second half when he sent a rasping 30-yard volley that Dallas goalkeeper Maarten Paes had to save.

In the first half, the World Cup-winning Argentine player came dangerously close to setting up Suarez for the opening goal, but the Uruguayan’s shot with the outside of his right boot went wide reported by TVsports.

After just three minutes, Dallas’ Jesus Ferreira gave them the lead. The US international striker held off Miami defender Noah Allen before putting a low, angled ball past goalie Drake Callender and into the bottom corner.

Monday’s game was the second in a globe-trotting schedule of pre-season friendlies for Miami as they prepare to kick off the new MLS season against Real Salt Lake on February 21.

Following Monday’s game, the Florida club head to Saudi Arabia for a fixture against Al-Hilal on January 29, and then face Al-Nassr on February 1 — a game that should see Messi line up against old rival Cristiano Ronaldo once more.

Miami then travel to Asia to play friendlies against a Hong Kong select team in the Chinese territory on February 4, before taking on Japanese side Vissel Kobe in Tokyo three days later.
