Merson: Sanchez is the only Arsenal player good enough for Tottenham’s XI

Paul Merson believes Alexis Sanchez is the only Arsenal player that would get into Tottenham Hotspur‘s best eleven.

Arsene Wenger’s side may have finished ahead of their rivals for as long as they can remember, but that record is in danger of being tarnished with the Gunners failing to overcome several obstacles recently.

Defeats to Watford and Chelsea has heaped the pressure on Wenger, but Spurs in the meantime have been firing on all cylinders.

Arsenal head into this weekend’s game with Hull City void of confidence, whilst Spurs travel to Anfield feeling they can get all three points.

And Merson has now revealed that his former club are not the force they once were, saying only Sanchez would get into Mauricio Pochettino’s team.

“I don’t know where they would be [without Alexis Sanchez],” Merson told Sky Sports.

“He’s their one player. I was talking to someone the other day and I said that if you put Tottenham’s best 11 that they can get on the football pitch and put Arsenal best 11 next to it, Sanchez is the only player that gets in [to Spurs’ team].

“If you go through the team, I just don’t see who else gets in – that can’t be right.”

Arsenal will be hoping this is not the season that Spurs, sitting in second place, finish above them and ruin St Totteringham’s Day – the day when Arsenal fans enjoy the fact that their rivals can no longer catch them in the league.
