Merson Advises Arsenal To Go All Out For Striker In January

Arsenal legend, Paul Merson has reportedly urged his former side to solve their goal-scoring problems by sealing the transfer of Brentford talismanic forward, Ivan Toney in the January transfer window.

The Gunners’ 2-1 loss to Fulham at Craven Cottage on Sunday marked a disappointing end to 2023.

Mikel Arteta’s team, who were leading at Christmas, suffered their second loss in three days. Currently, they are in fourth place.

December saw Arsenal’s goal-scoring woes exposed, and Eddie Nketiah was given the nod ahead of Gabriel Jesus for the trip to West London.

Arteta hopes to enter the market for a new centre forward this month. But Arsenal are maintaining their commitment to financial fair play.

Merson insists that the Gunners need to sign Toney and says it’s “simple.”

‘Arsenal have to go and get Toney, simple!’ said Merson as reported by The Metro.

‘It’s not over yet.’

When his eight-month suspension for gambling offenses expires this month, Toney is expected to make a comeback.

Brentford want £100 million for the striker and are believed to be willing to cash in.

Arsenal’s primary rivals for the striker’s signature are Chelsea.

The Gunners will be aiming to leave their disappointing end of 2023 by bringing in fresh faces into the squad in order to dislodge Manchester City and win their first top-flight title since the 2003/04 season when they went unbeaten throughout the league campaign.
