Mata sends get-well message to injured Mkhitaryan after Europa League win

Juan Mata has taken to Instagram to wish Henrikh Mkhitaryan a swift return from injury after the midfielder suffered a suspected hamstring injury in a 1-0 win at Saint-Etienne on Wednesday night.

The Armenia international made a fine start to the second-leg clash in the Europa League after the attacking midfielder broke the deadlock in the 16th minute in France to hand Manchester United a 4-0 aggregate lead.

However, the 28-year-old playmaker’s evening took a turn for the worst when Mkhitaryan was forced off shortly after his goal with a hamstring injury to effectively rule the midfielder out of Sunday’s EFL Cup final.

Jose Mourinho’s side managed to see out the 1-0 win and secure their place in the Europa League last-16 draw on Friday despite Ivory Coast defender Eric Bailly receiving a straight red card in the second half.

Mata highlighted the blossoming team spirit in the Manchester United camp as the Spain international sent his best wishes to Mkhitaryan on Instagram.

He wrote: “One more step on the @uefaeuropaleague & now time to prepare the #eflcup final! 😃 Get well soon @micki_taryan 💪🏻 @manchesterunited #mufc #UEL”
