Mason Greenwood’s Man Utd Contract May Have Been ‘Secretly Extended’, Getafe Believe

Getafe, a team in La Liga, claims that Mason Greenwood’s Manchester United contract may have been extended.

The 22-year-old was arrested in January 2022 after making his Premier League debut and was suspected of assault, controlling behavior, and attempted rape. Even though the charges were dropped, the Englishman never made it back into the United team because the team was afraid of a significant backlash, even though they had previously discussed his reintegration.

Deciding against permanently selling him, the club instead sent him out on loan to Getafe for the 2023/24 season where he’s netted six goals and contributed five assists in 25 league games.

Greenwood’s contract expires in the summer of 2025, but United has a condition that permits them to extend it by one year until 2026. Getafe believes United may have already used this clause, according to The Athletic.

The Spanish side believes that because of discussions they had with the club, they were informed that his contract would expire in 2026, and as a result, United has already activated the contract provision.

The club has stated that they can exercise the option until May 2025, therefore no decision regarding his contract has yet to be made. Greenwood may visit his boyhood club again, according to Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who also stated that a decision regarding his future will be made.

The British billionaire added, “All I can do is talk about the principle of how we will approach decisions like that.” Is he the right kind of football player, and do we think he’s a nice man or not? We are in command of football because he plays for Manchester United.”
