Martial: It’s “truly annoying” to be on the Manchester United bench

Anthony Martial has admitted he has found being left on the Manchester United substitutes bench “annoying” after failing to reproduce his excellent form from last season.

Martial took the Premier League by storm last year after moving to United from Monaco. The young Frenchman scored 11 goals in the English top flight for his new side in his debut campaign.

This year though the pacey attacker has struggled to show his ability with the 21-year-old scoring just one Premier League goal. It is a level of performance that has seen Martial play just ten times in the league, of which seven have been starts.

With Martial one of the first names on the team-sheet last season the player himself has admitted he is becoming frustrated with his new role in the squad under Jose Mourinho.

But the No.11 admits he has to accept these decisions and earn his place back in the side.

Martial told French broadcaster SFR Sport, via Sky Sports: “It’s annoying to be on the bench, it’s truly annoying, but it’s a test you have to overcome and that’s how you progress.

“It’s difficult because all you want is to be able to help the team and when you’re on the bench you can’t.

“But these are choices and you have to accept it.”
