Marseille Confirm Free Transfer Of Alexis Sanchez After His Inter Deal Was Terminated

Marseille have agreed to sign Alexis Sanchez on a free transfer, after his contract with Inter Milan was mutually terminated. After joining Inter from Manchester United in 2019, the 33-year-old made 109 appearances in all games and netted 20 goals.

Sanchez assisted Inter in winning the Scudetto in 2020-21, as well as the Supercoppa Italiana and Coppa Italia last season.

However, the Chilean international made only seven Serie A starts in the 2021-22 season, falling down the pecking order under Simeone Inzaghi.

What Did Sanchez Say After He Left Milan?

Sanchez reminisced on his stint with Inter and thanked the club and their fans on his Instagram story.

“Here I leave three trophies after 11 years. Thank you and good luck, see you soon,” he stated.

Inter also issued a statement wishing the veteran attacker the best of luck in the next phase of his career.

The statement reads: “The club would like to wholeheartedly thank Alexis for these last three seasons, in which the Nerazzurri won three major honours, and we wish him all the best for his future career.”

Sanchez Ready For Fresh Start At Marseille

Sanchez, who formerly played for Arsenal in the Premier League, has now joined Marseille on a free transfer.

“Marseille and Alexis Sanchez have agreed on a transfer on principle,”  the club announced in a statement.

“The Chilean international with 143 caps, who won 17 trophies in his career, will commit himself to Olympique in the next few hours after passing his medical tests.”

He is poised to sign a two-year contract with Stade Velodrome, where he will join two other former Arsenal players, Matteo Guendouzi and Sead Kolasinac, as well as Gunners loanee Nuno Tavares.

Sanchez was a cult figure at Arsenal, where he scored 80 goals and provided 45 assists in 166 games while also winning two FA Cups. However, he left on a sour note when he forced a move to Manchester United in January 2018.
