Manuel Neuer Reveals Skin Cancer Battle, Required Three Surgeries

Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has opened up on his battle with skin cancer. The German international has undergone three rounds of surgery on his face and is now working to raise awareness of skin cancer by investing in a sun cream company.

Neuer has made nine Bundesliga appearances so far this season for Bayern, though he has not featured since early October due to a shoulder injury.

The shot-stopper is returning to fitness now and back training with his teammates, and he has spoken out about an off-field battle he has been facing.

The 36-year-old revealed on his Instagram on Wednesday that he has had to undergo three rounds of surgery on his face due to skin cancer.

The scar from going under the knife is still visible, and he wants to raise awareness of the need for everyone to wear suncream when they are outside.

Neuer went on to speak about how he has invested in a company called Newkee in hope of raising awareness for the need for strong suncream.

The former Schalke star has joined the business venture with tennis star Angelique Kerber, who has also struggled with skin diseases previously.

He explained: “We both have a history of skin diseases. In my case, skin cancer on my face, which required three surgeries.
“When it comes to sunscreen, we have therefore paid attention to maximum protection.
“Since we train outside all the time and also like to spend our free time in nature, it is essential for us to start with modern sun protection filters and a sun protection factor of 50+.
“So we know for sure that we have a sunscreen that protects us continuously and with which hardly anything can burn.”
