Manchester United is the perfect club for Pogba – Mourinho

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho believes Paul Pogba‘s return to the club is an “amazing situation” for the Red Devils.

The 23-year-old, who left United for just £800,000 back in 2012, is set to return after it was finally confirmed by Manchester United on Sunday ahead of the FA Community Shield at Wembley Stadium.

Pogba’s transfer fee is set to surpass Gareth Bale’s £85m move to Real Madrid in 2013, which has generated much debate regarding his arrival.

However, speaking after the 2-1 win over Leicester City on Sunday in the capital, Mourinho felt the imminent switch – which is subject to a medical – is great news for the club, but did also warn Pogba had a fight on his hands getting into the starting eleven.

“I think so, finally. It’s an amazing situation that such a great player is with us. Finally we have him,” Mourinho told BT Sport.

“He comes to a winning side, who have won the Cup Final and the Community Shield. He has to work hard to come to the team. I only heard this information just before the game.”

Mourinho did however suggest Pogba will become the star player at United, unlike at Barcelona or Real Madrid, where Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo remain undisputed MVPs.

“United is the perfect club to bring him to the level he wants to be,” he added.

“The Premier League is the perfect habitat for that. If you want to be the best player in the world, if you go to Barcelona or Real Madrid you are in trouble because I don’t think the other two big guys (Messi and Ronaldo) will let you.

“Here he is in the most seen, worldwide, championship which is absolutely incredible, with a team which wants to bring Manchester United to the top again. We have everything to give him and we know the reasons why he wants to come to us.

“Money he would get at any big club. He comes because he knows the club, knows the city, many of the players and wants to be an important part of the project. Hopefully everything goes well.”

Pogba, who helped France reach the Euro 2016 final this summer before they lost to Portugal, won four league titles during his four years in Turin.

Pogba will become Mourinho’s fourth signing at United since taking over, after Eric Bailly, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan were all snapped up by the Portuguese tactician.

Pogba, who registered more assists than any other Serie A player last season, will certainly have to fight hard to get into Manchester United’s star- studded midfield.
