According to reports, Van Persie and club director Ferry de Haan have already had a “exploratory conversation.” When he was only beginning his playing career, more than 20 years ago, they had previously collaborated at Feyenoord.

He’s not the only former Manchester United striker who’s wanted by Heerenveen, as Ruud van Nistelrooy was also an option. The latter declined the possibility because he wants to work abroad.

Van Persie retired from football in the summer of 2019, and has been working at Feyenoord since then. He started as a striker coach, and then moved to their youth ranks, as he’s currently the U-18 coach.

The striker played for Manchester United between 2012 and 2015, winning his much desired Premier League title and scoring 58 goals in 105 matches. He then left for Fenerbahçe and returned to Feyenoord to play for one year before his retirement.
