Manchester United knew they could dominate Chelsea – Young

Ashley Young believes Manchester United’s dominant performance against Chelsea is long overdue.

Goals from Marcus Rashford and Ander Herrera saw United end a frustrating run of home draws and best league leaders Chelsea in a match where Jose Mourinho’s Red Devils tactically frustrated the Blues.

Such a performance was a rude awakening for Antonio Conte’s men given how difficult United have made life for themselves in recent home matches.

The winger captained United for the first time and the 31-year-old was just as proud of his side’s showing against Chelsea as he was to receive such an honour, claiming the Red Devils have been building to such a impressive performance for a while.

Young said, according to ESPN: “Every man was fantastic from start to finish.

“We have felt that kind of performance coming. There have been a lot of draws at home. I don’t think a lot of people saw that scoreline coming or the type of game to be honest. We did.

“We have belief in ourselves. I have confidence in every single player in the squad. There is great competition in the squad. We have a busy month and everyone has to be ready and on their toes. I don’t think a lot of people expected it but we did.

“There have been high standards here since I signed for the club and we want to be pushing on. A lot has been said about how we want to finish fourth but I am that kind of person who wants to achieve more than that. I want to finish higher than that.”
