Manchester United Defender Lisandro Martinez Undergoes Successful Surgery On Broken Metatarsal

Lisandro Martinez, a Manchester United defender, has had successful surgery on a season-ending foot injury.

During last week’s 2-2 draw with Sevilla in the Europa League quarter-final first leg at Old Trafford, the Argentine World Cup winner suffered a fracture of the fifth metatarsal in his right foot.

United awaited the seriousness of the injury with bated breath, hoping that he would be able to return before the summer, but it rapidly became evident that he would not be able to play again this season.

The club claimed, however, that Martinez was anticipated to make a full recovery and be ready for the start of the 2023/24 season in August.

After undergoing a successful operation on Monday, the 25-year-old will now begin working toward that objective.

Martinez said on Instagram, beside a photo of himself smiling and giving the thumbs up from a hospital bed, “Everything went really well, thanks to God!” Thank you for all of your messages. “I’m now concentrating on my recovery.”

Martinez’s absence was exacerbated for United by the fact that fellow first-choice defender Raphael Varane suffered a foot injury against Sevilla that will keep him out for several weeks.

Both players’ absences have forced Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof to step up, with the former coming off a poor first 20 minutes against Nottingham Forest in the Premier League on Sunday.

Ten Hag is currently dealing with an injury crisis, with Marcus Rashford, Luke Shaw, Scott McTominay, Tom Heaton, and Alejandro Garnacho all sidelined, with the latter stepping up his recovery after posting a picture of himself back with boots on yesterday.
