Manchester United Considering Move For Olivier Giroud

Former Arsenal and Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud has reportedly emerged as a shock transfer target for Manchester United.

Erik ten Hag is in search of a new striker after the Red Devils terminated Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract in November after his scathing interview with Piers Morgan.

United were heavily linked with a move for forward Cody Gakpo, but the Netherlands international has instead left PSV Eindhoven and signed a long-term contract with Liverpool.

Atletico Madrid’s Joao Felix is said to be an option, but the Spanish club’s €21m (£18.5m) loan package, which includes a €15m (£13.2m) loan fee on top of his wages, is proving to be a major obstacle for interested clubs.

According to The Times, Manchester United are considering a January move for former Arsenal and Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud.

The 36-year-old scored 39 goals in 119 games while playing for London rivals Chelsea for two and a half years after scoring 105 goals in 253 appearances with the Gunners between 2012 and 2018.

Giroud then left Chelsea in the summer of 2021 to join Milan, where he has since identified himself as a first-team regular, contributing 23 goals and nine assists in 57 games across all competitions.

The Frenchman, who won the Scudetto with Milan last season, is out of contract at the end of the season, but the Rossoneri are expected to extend his contract.

Ten Hag recently stated that any potential signings during the winter window must meet the club’s ‘sporting and financial criteria’.

Giroud, who scored four goals for runner-up France at the 2022 World Cup, is expected to play for Milan against Salernitana in Serie A on Wednesday.

United have scored 24 league goals this season, placing them 10th in the Premier League.
