Man Utd ‘Face European Ban’ As UEFA Squeeze Felt After Sir Jim Ratcliffe Takeover

The French club Nice’s association with Sir Jim Ratcliffe is said to cast doubt on Manchester United’s ability to play in Europe the following season. Although UEFA has loosened its regulations regarding multiple clubs, allowing teams owned by the same company to participate in competitions, they have not yet granted the Red Devils permission to play.

Article 5 of UEFA’s competition regulations, which come into effect on May 1, now allow teams owned by the same group to compete in Europe. However, they still cannot play in the same competition, which United and Nice may be heading towards.

United may finish outside of those spots and wind up in the Europa League, even though the Premier League is expected to get a fifth Champions League slot in the enlarged competition the following season.

Despite a significant decline in performance from earlier in the season, when they were expected to qualify for the Champions League, Nice is still a candidate for that competition. However, if United makes it to the same tournament, UEFA regulations may penalize them.

According to the rules set forth by the regulating body, no person or organization is allowed to have “control or influence” over more than one club participating in the same tournament. Only the club that finishes higher in their home league will be allowed to compete if an investigation by UEFA’s Club Financial Control Body reveals that individuals within INEOS share control over both clubs and they are unable to make the required changes to their business structure reported by The Mirror.
