Man United’s Anthony Martial Ruled Out Of FA Cup Final With Injury

Manchester United forward Anthony Martial has been ruled out of Saturday’s FA Cup final against Manchester City with a hamstring injury.

Martial suffered a hamstring injury late in their 2-1 win against Fulham in the final game of the Premier League season on Sunday.

The club’s official website has now announced that the Frenchman would not participate in the weekend’s showcase competition.

“Anthony Martial is out of Saturday’s Emirates FA Cup final against Manchester City due to injury.

“The France international strained his hamstring towards the end of Sunday’s 2-1 win against Fulham at Old Trafford.

“Assessments have since revealed a muscle tear that rules the 27-year-old out of the Wembley showdown.”

It brings more frustration for the 27-year-old, who has already missed much of 2023, including Manchester United’s EFL Cup final victory over Newcastle United in February.

Martial has started just eight games since returning from that muscular injury, coming on as a substitute in seven of them, and he suffered his most recent injury after coming on as a 67th-minute substitute on Sunday.

Martial’s absence also implies that he will fail to reach double figures for the third consecutive season, with the forward netting just nine goals in all competitions this season.

The 27-year-old played 85 minutes of United’s semi-final win over Brighton before being substituted by Jadon Sancho. He has nine goals and three assists this season, for an average of one goal per 120 minutes, or 1.3 games.

Martial joins the likes of Marcel Sabitzer, Donny van de Beek, and Lisandro Martinez on the injured list. Erik ten Hag is more positive Antony will be available after sustaining an ankle injury in Thursday’s 4-1 victory over Chelsea.
